9b+3 = 13d+3
===> 9b = 13d
so take b = 13 and d = 9

9b+3 = 9*13+3 = 120
ie, x=120

substituting
7a+1 = 120
7a = 119
a = 17

11c-1 = 120

Now it said that value of the diamond is twice the Weight of original diamond therefore,
Value = 2 (x)+2 (2x)+2 (3x)+2 (4x)+2 (5x) = 30x
Then, 30*(8500/3) = 85000.
Therefore their is no loss.

But if you take value of diamond is square of its weight then we will have loss of 74000.

16. Diamond\s value is proportional to its weight 2 .When the diamond broke what of pieces in ratio 1:2:3;4:5. Total loss in value is 85,000. What is the value of the diamond twice the wt of the original diamond.

let weight of the original diamond be 15k ( This number is the sum of the numbers in the ratio given ) ,so, it's value would be 225k^2. Now, the broken diamond's value adds upto 55k^2(. So, loss of value is 170k^2 which is 85,000.  [85,000/170]   This gives k^2 = 500.

We need (30k)^2 = 900k^2 = 900* 500 = 450,000

from where this 55k^2 come??

add the square of ratios u will get 55k^2...1+4+9+16+25=55
